Weight Loss: Why bother?

Weight Loss: Why bother?

You’ve heard all the good reasons for losing weight.  Are there any reasons not to lose weight?

1.       I am just setting myself up for failure. Most people who lose weight just gain it all back.

2.       Life is hard. Why deny myself the pleasure of food?

3.       I don’t really need to lose weight. I can be fat and still be fit and healthy.

4.       When I feel bad, I use food to cope. It’s better than smoking or using drugs.

5.       I can’t fight my genes. My family is full of fat people.

6.       Then there’s the other kind of “jeans”.  A person’s value shouldn’t be based on the size of their jeans. I won’t buy into that.

7.       Everywhere I look, I see food glorified: TV ads, magazine covers, cookbooks, billboards. How can I be expected to withstand that kind of pressure?

Please let me know what you think of this list. If you put these reasons on one side of a scale and the reasons for losing weight on the other side of the scale, how does the scale tip for you?
